Hey little girl with tears in your eyes
Don't waste your time now askin' me why
I don't know, I know I'll just be movin' along...

-- Johnny Cash, "Sing A Traveling Song"

It's been almost eight years since I first performed with the word "Uncle" in front of my name, and four years since my band, The Alibis, first got onstage and did their best to try and make me sound good. In that time, I've played dozens of shows, put out two homegrown albums, and been served more free drinks than I care to recall. In the past year alone, I've had the pleasure of playing in twelve states, receiving fan mail from the other side of the planet, and hugging more rollergirls than any one boy should ever have the privilege of seeing up close. It's been a good run, to say the least.

But now, after a lot of thought and more than a little hesitation, I've decided to end the band.

No, it isn't a joke or another cheap marketing ploy. And no, there's no bad blood between the band members. There are no crippling addictions or "creative differences" or heated financial disputes with the label. (Hell, that would require money… and a label.) Let's just say that after years of consistently writing, singing, and otherwise running my own show, I'm a little tired of hearing the sound of my own voice. I'd rather quit while I'm ahead than let myself become yet another bitter, weary guy who's just going through the motions. I always prided myself on trying to give my best at every show, and I would hate to make anyone—myself included—settle for anything less.

I'll still be keeping the Myspace page and Web site up, and I'll keep selling the existing albums until we run out. I've still got a few T-shirts floating around too, if anybody's interested.

My only real regret will be leaving behind all the loyal (some might say crazed) fans who've helped make every show so damn wild. Without you all, I'd just be another drunk jackass with a guitar. Instead, I got to be a drunk jackass playing a guitar in front of a pack of other drunk jackasses. I owe it all to you.

So, as a final farewell—and a big, fat-bottomed "thank you" to everyone who's stuck by us—Uncle Leon and the Alibis will be playing our last show. And just to seal the deal, we'll be doing it at the place where the whole glorious mess really started—the one and only Hank's Saloon. Consider it my semi-retirement party, or my last hurrah… or just one more damn good time.
